JOIN USNamma Metro's first six-car train will be inaugurated by Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy on Friday.
In a press release issued on Wednesday, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) said the train would be flagged off from the Baiyappanahalli metro station at 5.30 pm. It will then proceed to the Kempegowda station at Majestic.
Three intermediate cars were supplied by the Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) for the six-car train. The PSU secured a contract in March 2017 to supply 150 such cars at a cost of Rs 1421 crore.
As per the schedule, the supply of the cars was to commence in June this year, indicating that the second set of three cars will be delivered soon. According to the contract, all the 150 cars should be delivered by December 2019.
Though the first set of three intermediate cars was delivered in February, the six-car train had to clear several tests and service trials. The BMRCL had to obtain safety clearances from the Commissioner of Railway Safety and approval by the Railway Board before introducing it for commercial operations.
The introduction of the first big train will pave the way for the conversion of more trains into six-car trains when BEML supplies the units in the coming days. Subsequent six-car trains can be introduced after the internal testing, without safety tests and clearances from the CRS.
