Metro commuters taking trains from Lalbagh station on Saturday, Sunday and Independence Day will have to pay Rs 30 for paper tickets if they do not have smart cards.

Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) has introduced paper tickets with Rs 30 flat fare between 8 am and 8 pm on the three days, to avoid queues at the ticket counter.

"The Metro fares from Lalbagh station to any Metro station on these days will be Rs 30. The paper tickets are valid for the day of purchase only," BMRCL said in a release.

Though the tickets are available for purchase at all Metro stations during the three days, they will be considered valid only while entering from Lalbagh.

The fares will not change for onward journey from any station to Lalbagh Metro station regardless of whether passengers use tokens or smartcards.

For those using smartcards at Lalbagh Metro station, the normal fare will be applicable.

The Rs 30 ticket will help passengers travelling long distances to save money.

Those who paid Rs 45 for a token to travel from Lalbagh to Nagasandra can save Rs 15.

The short-distance commuters, especially those getting down after two stations, will pay more than double.
