The manager of #BEiR, an upscale pub on Church Street, was arrested on Saturday while two others were booked for criminal negligence after two customers fell to their death through a window on the second floor of the pub around Friday midnight.

The deceased have been identified as Pavan Attavar (36) and Vedha R Yadav (26). Attavar, a resident of RMV 2nd stage, Sanjay Nagar, worked as a manager with the Brand Department of Deccan Herald while his friend Vedha was a software engineer with IBM and a resident of RT Nagar, police said.

According to police, Attavar and Vedha had gone to the #BEiR pub for a dinner with a few friends.

Soon after the dinner, Pavan asked one of his friends to clear the bills and walked out of the pub with Vedha.

While climbing down the stairs from the second floor, both of them slipped and fell through the window which had fibre-blinds and not secured with iron grills. Veda fell to the ground while Pavan hit a sun-shade on the first floor before crashing to the ground, police said.

The freak accident has been captured by the CCTV camera installed at the staircase. The incident happened very close to a place where Police Commissioner Alok Kumar was addressing journalists about his night rounds to keep tabs on irregularities of pubs across the city.

Following the incident, Cubbon Park police registered a case under IPC 304 A (Causing death by negligence) and booked the building owner Sudhir Shetty, pub’s licence holder Chandan and manager Mahesh Kulkarni for criminal negligence.

The pub was closed down on Saturday and cordoned off by police who conducted a spot inspection and made inquiries about the incident.
