RWA asks DyCM to end illegal commercialisation

Members of ‘i Change’ Indiranagar, a residents welfare association, met Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara on Monday over the rampant illegal commercialisation of the locality.

Sneha Nandihal, a resident, said: “We meet Parameshwara, requesting him to take action against illegal commercial establishment, pubs, bars and BDA complex redevelopment. Almost 90% of the commercial establishments in the area don’t have a trade licence. Despite several complaints to the authorities, the number of pubs, bars, microbreweries and restaurants are increasing.”

The RWA also submitted a letter to Parmeshwara, who also holds the Bengaluru Development portfolio. The letter states: “During several meetings with the BBMP commissioner, we have provided a list of such erring establishments in 2016. Post the public notice by the commissioner to shut the commercial establishment dated December 6, 2016, two years down we have seen no concrete action in this regard.”

On the redevelopment of BDA Complex, the letter states: “We urge you to drop the plan of redeveloping the BDA complex. We request the site be converted into a tree park like the Cariappa park in MG Road, given that there are already 140 old trees in the complex area.”

After the meeting, Parameshwara said, “I will hold a meeting of officials from BBMP, BDA, BESCOM and BWSSB soon to close commercial establishments in residential areas.”
