The Karnataka police and transport department have submitted that till October 2018, a total of 19,868 vehicles seized in various cases have been disposed of. However, 18,477 vehicles are at police stations and are yet to be auctioned.

The Lokayukta had directed the police and transport department to submit a status report on the auctioning of seized vehicles based on a complaint. The complaint was filed by Siddalinge Gowda.

In the report submitted by the police department, it was stated that between 2015 and 2018 (till October) 19,868 vehicles were disposed of.

‘Need time’

“The officials have said that if the police department is given four months’ time, they will be able to bring down the number of vehicles to be disposed of by a substantial level, and possibly to an extent of 5% of the vehicles that are yet to be disposed of.

“The departments have taken effective measures to comply with the directions given by me, and steps have been taken to dispose of a large number of vehicles. Another four months time is granted to get the remaining vehicles disposed of,’’ the Lokayukta stated.

The report submitted by the police department stated that 1.57 lakh vehicles were seized in 2018 (till October) and the department disposed of 1.39 lakh vehicles.
