Pregnancy has become complex, say docs

Last Updated 15 December 2018, 17:44 IST

Gynaecologists in the city say that there has been an increased trend of obesity among both urban and rural areas. Dr Hema Divakar, a city-based gynaecologist says one in three women is seeking help for infertility problems and one in five women develops diabetes during pregnancy and sometimes even cancer and mental disorders. She also said that one in every four girls has polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).

Although pregnancy-related deaths are decreasing, a simple pregnancy and childbirth have become very complex for today's women, said Dr Hema. In order to create awareness about women's health, this year's All India Congress of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (AICOG 2019) to be held in January 2019 has the tagline “Women's Health Nation's Wealth”.

To kickstart AICOG, organised by the Federation of Obstetrical and Gynaecological Societies of India (FOGSI), a walkathon was organised on Saturday. The theme for FOGSI for 2019 is, ‘We for Stree – Safer, Stronger, Smarter’ and was unveiled on the occasion.
