People wish to fine BBMP officials for dumping garbage

While we have had Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) officials fining residents for littering in the city, now residents also wish to penalise these officials for dumping garbage and creating black spots on vacant plots.

The residents of Ranka Colony, situated off Bannerghatta road, want to penalise the civic body officials for dumping garbage in the pretext of waste segregation leading to a number of problems.

According to a nearby resident who did not wish to be named, “The issue has continued for the last eight to 10 months. BBMP trucks dump garbage and the workers claim that they are segregating the waste. As it is mostly filled with animal waste, it attracts a lot of stray dogs and has become a nuisance for us. Children cannot go out and play.”

She further said that there is a huge risk of gas explosion as a distributor from HP Gas places his cylinders in the site at times. “What if the cylinders catch fire when the garbage is burning?” she asked.

Neither the ward corporator, nor the BBMP officials are lending a ear to their grievances, despite several complaints being lodged. “We have been reading about how the civic body officials are collecting hefty fines from offenders who dump garbage across the city. But who will penalise these officials who are responsible for the mess here?” she asked.

Another resident of the locality, Raji Khandige, from SNN Raj Lakeview apartment, said that they do not have information on who is the owner of the vacant plot. “If we at least bring this menace to the owner’s notice, he can initiate some action. This garbage finally reaches the stormwater drain and clogs it.” She also said that this poses health hazards to the ones living nearby.

Meanwhile, Sarfaraz Khan, joint commissioner, health and solid waste management, BBMP, said, “I have heard about this issue about two years ago. We will look into the matter and take necessary action.”
