Revenue dept begins field survey of properties in city

Following the drone survey of properties in June, the Survey, Settlement and Land Records Department has begun the field survey.

The physical field survey started from Thursday, August 9, in Ramanagara and will start from Friday (August 10) in Jayanagara. The two will be completed in 15 days, each.

The Revenue Department and the Survey of India started the drone based survey in Jayanagara on June 10 and in Ramanagara in July.

They surveyed 23 lakh properties in Jayanagara, while inspecting agricultural plots in Ramanagara.

“The preliminary survey details are positive. Now, we’re taking up physical survey to be doubly sure of the survey plots,” Commissioner for Survey, Settlement and Land Records Munish Modgil said.

He said the Government of India gave the digitized details of each plot, which are like photographic details of the surveyed plots. The details are verified with what stands on the ground.

Though initial reports indicate that there are no errors, cross verification through field survey help ascertain the finer details to make the pilot survey a success and to implement it across the state.

The department handpicked Jayanagara for the pilot due to the accuracy of data and minimal discrepancies with the residential plots. It chose Ramanagara since there is larger variation in sugarcane cultivation and various political reasons.

Once successful, the revenue department will re- survey all the properties in Karnataka, the first since 1960. The data will help revenue department determine deviations and encroachments and will also be a database while issuing property ownership cards to citizens.

Modgil said the government of India had followed the national drone policy for the pilot drone survey and the same will be applied state-wide.
