The BBMP has been getting innovative in its quest to raise the city’s cleanliness ranking in Swachh Survekshan 2021.

The civic body has been holding rallies, cyclathons and other events to put cleanliness on top of every citizen’s priority list. On Sunday, it held a street play and flash mob to lure the attention of strollers at Church Street.

Both the events harped on the theme of Swachhata, or cleanliness, with those enjoying Valentine’s Day outing stopping by to witness them.

D Randeep, BBMP’s Special Commissioner, SWM, and other officials present at the event urged citizens to spread awareness on cleanliness and the importance of the Swachh Survekshan survey.

Speaking about the upcoming events to promote cleanliness, Randeep stated that the BBMP had plans to organise bike rallies, plog runs and localised plays in schools, colleges and malls to educate students and youngsters.

Asked about the efforts the BBMP is making to secure the top rank in the survey other than the engaging events, Randeep said the BBMP had increased its waste collection, released more garbage collection tippers and increased its workforce.

Swachh Survekshan is an annual survey of cleanliness, hygiene and sanitation in cities and towns across India. It intends to foster healthy competition among towns and cities to improve their service delivery to citizens and move towards creating cleaner cities.
