The families of two accident victims, who were declared brain-dead, have helped save lives by donating the victims’ organs.
The traffic police created two green corridors to transport the organs of Manjunath, 13, a resident of Kunigal; and Muniraju, 23, from Anekal.
Manjunath had met with an accident while riding pillion on Friday. He suffered a head injury and was brought to the Sparsh Hospital in Yeshwantpur where doctors declared him brain-dead. Following counselling, his parents consented to donate his organs. Manjunath’s heart and liver were transported to the Narayana Hrudayalaya.
His organs gave a new lease of life to two girls aged 11 and 9. Manjunath’s kidneys were donated to Sparsh and Command hospitals. Muniraju had suffered a head injury while riding a two-wheeler. He was shifted to Apollo Hospital in the city, where doctors declared him brain-dead.
His lungs were airlifted from the HAL airport to Chennai to be transplanted to a recipient at the Global Hospital. Muniraju’s kidneys, liver, pancreas and heart valves were also donated.
