Coast Guard chief reviews coastal security in K'taka

Coast Guard Region (West) Commander Inspector General V D Chafekar visited Mangaluru to review the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) response and preparedness for effective coastal security mechanism in Karnataka.

The key focus was on Coast Guard operations, infrastructure development and administration in the state.

The priorities of Chafekar, the Flag Officer, included strengthening the coastal security approach through coordination with various State and Central agencies and to make the seas safe for the seafarers on the west coast.

During the visit, the Flag officer interacted with Coast Guard officers and men and visited various ICG assets at New Mangalore Port. The Flag Officer also took stock of the situation and showed the path for improvement.

Chafekar expressed satisfaction over the recent rescue services rendered by Coast Guard in saving 189 lives in the current year. He also expressed satisfaction over the progress made in land acquisition, infrastructure development and effective liaison with State administration, police, customs, fisheries and other stake holders in Karnataka.

The presence of Commander, Coast Guard Region (West) brought a wave of motivation and enthusiasm amongst the Coast Guard personnel.
