'Mumbai Saga' teaser: John Abraham, Emraan Hashmi team up for an old school actioner

Noted director Sanjay Gupta took to Twitter on Wednesday to share the teaser of his upcoming movie Mumbai Saga much to the delight of movie buffs. The short video is as intense as anything can be and may click with those who are fond of 'desi' action dramas. The film is apparently set at a time when 'Bombay was not yet Mumbai' and revolves around the clash between a gangster/goon and a cop.

The film seems to be a trademark Sanjay Gupta offering that has been made keeping in mind the tastes of the masses. It stars John Abraham in the role of a gangster with Emraan Hashmi playing the role of his khaki-wearing nemesis. The Dhoom baddie had previously played a bhai in the Shootout at Wadala impressing fans with his work. It remains to be seen whether the Mumbai Saga proves to be a gamechanger for him.

Emraan, on the other, desperately needs a hit as most of his recent movies have not done well at the box office. The erstwhile 'Serial Kisser' Had sometime ago tried to reinvent his reel image with the web series Bard of Blood, which was produced by Shah Rukh Khan. The show, unfortunately, did not live up to expectations. The general perception is that Mumbai Saga may help him revive his Bollywood career. The biggie has a star-studded cast that includes Rohit Roy, Suniel Shetty, Tollywood star Kajal Aggarwal, Samir Soni and the 'Bad Man' Gulshan Grover

It was supposed to hit the screens last year but that did not happen due to the Covid-19 pandemic. There were rumours of it releasing on an OTT platform, skipping the theatrical route. The makers ultimately announced that it will be released in theatres on March 19. It has the potential to help Bollywood regain its lost mojo after the lockdown, adding a dimension to the 'OTT Vs theatres' debate.
