Even after being cured of Covid-19 infection, the condition of veteran Bengali actor Soumitra Chatterjee deteriorated on Tuesday with his creatinine and urea levels shooting up.

The 85-year-old winner of the Legion of Honour, the highest civilian award in France, is also suffering from a low platelet count.

Doctors attending to him at a private health facility in Kolkata said they were considering using renal replacement therapy support for the thespian. They also said that the veteran actor was suffering from secondary pneumonia and kidney-related problems.

“His condition is critical but we have been able to stabilise his vital parameters to some extent,” said Dr Arindam Kar.

He said Chatterjee, who is on ventilator support, was also being given basic oxygen support and his saturation level was higher than 95%.

“His platelet has been stable since Monday. We are considering to use blood transfusion to improve his condition further,” said a doctor.

Chatterjee was admitted to the hospital on October 6 after he tested positive of Covid-19.k
