Deve Gowda tells grandson Prajwal Revanna not to resign

Former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda has advised his grandson Prajwal Revanna, the lone JD(S) candidate who won the Lok Sabha election from Hassan, to not tender his resignation.

Prajwal had announced on Friday that he will resign in order to vacate the seat for his grandfather who lost from Tumkur against BJP's GS Basavaraju.

"I thought about this all night and I've arrived at this decision...I don't intend to disrespect the people of Hassan. But Deve Gowda is the foundation of our party and we need to restore his place," Prajwal had said.

Prajwal is the son of Public Works Minister HD Revanna, one of Deve Gowda's sons. Deve Gowda, who won from Hassan in the 2014 polls, shifted to Tumkur in order to launch Prajwal.

A reference to the issue was made in the JD(S) Legislature party meeting helmed by HD Kumaraswamy, JD(S) state unit president A H Vishwanath and other leaders.

To a question on Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna’s offer to resign, Vishwanath said that the issue did not come up for discussion in the meeting. “There is no question of his resignation,” he said.

His decision to resign came less than 24 hours of the declaration of the Lok Sabha election results on Thursday.

The JD(S) contested the polls from seven out of 28 Lok Sabha seats, with Prajwal being the only winner. The regional party's alliance partner Congress contested 21 seats and won just one.
