Gehlot hits back at Modi over Alwar gang-rape

Last Updated 13 May 2019, 19:44 IST

In wake of alleged gang-rape incident of a Schedule Caste woman in Alwar, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Monday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of deliberately targeting him by stating wrong facts.

"The state government has taken timely action in the matter which is why all accused have been arrested. Also, the SP was suspended," Gehlot said while speaking to media at his residence here.

The alleged gang-rape took place on April 26. However, the incident came to light on May 7. Six accused have been arrested so far.

The chief minister said that several cases of rape took place during the previous BJP government in the state. "A BJP MLA was involved in a rape case in Uttar Pradesh, but Modi never talked about them," he added.

He also attacked the BJP of giving access to the RSS in governance and its decisions. "Every institution in the country is controlled by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). It's the RSS which decides who will become the chief minister, a minister or a vice-chancellor," the chief minister added.

Gehlot said its high time that the RSS should declare itself as a political party and express their aim of making India a 'Hindu Rashtra'.
