Ambience, drinks winners here

There are some weekends where you just want to let your hair down and enjoy life to the hilt — no quiet sipping on your wine and musing about life then — and Foxtrot Gastropub is the perfect place for such a night out.

Located on the bustling Outer Ring Road, Foxtrot Gastropub is a riot of colours and sounds which cheer one up without overwhelming them. Every nook and corner of this place has a theme catering to different types of people.

As is expected of a casual dining place, the cuisine is a mix of North Indian, Continental, Chinese and more. The bar menu is extensive and has a number of eclectic cocktails that one can try out. ‘Forest Fog’ has Hickory wood smoke providing visual drama and a distinct flavour to the drink. It is infused with cinnamon and lemon which takes away the sting of the whiskey.

Other good options are ‘What a Match(a)’ — a great concoction of whiskey, matcha tea, ginger syrup and a dash of lime — and ‘Urban Decay’ — Bacardi based drink that incorporates pineapple, star anise, citrus juice and bitters and leaves a pleasant aftertaste.

The staff claims that tube-tube shots are best sellers and command a loyal fan following.

It would have been a shame of the food didn’t match the high standards set by the drinks but thankfully the dishes don’t disappoint. In starters, ‘Jerk Spiced Cottage Cheese’ is a must try for the softest paneer ever and an aromatic flavour of crushed pepper. The Pesto sauce deserves a special mention. The ‘Chaupati Bhel Bar’ is a unique concept for a pub and is a good mix of sweet and spice. It would be the perfect accompaniment for a drink.

The ‘Shock Fried baby Potatoes’ are a little too crispy but they have retained the goodness of the potatoes by not overpowering it with masalas. A dip would have been a nice accompaniment with this though.

Non-vegetarians can choose from ‘Cajun spiced pork ribs’ (good portions), ‘Lebanese Chicken Kebab’ (soft and juicy), ‘Curry Leaf Prawns’ (a little too salty for our taste), ‘Mustard Basil Fish Tikka’ (it was a little bitter and the taste of mustard was overpowered by taste of tandoor) and so on.

If the hunger pangs are particularly strong, opt for ‘Tandoori Chicken Nuggets’ (medium spicy) or ‘Pan Fried Veg Momos’ (generous portions and decent taste). The platters, both vegetarian and non-vegetarian, give you a chance to taste many dishes at once and are friendly on the wallet.

The ‘Dal Makhani’ lives up to its tag of comfort food though it is better matched with rice than the naans they serve; the salt levels were a little high for Indian breads.

In burgers, the ‘Peach and Sabudana Sliders’ were okay; not something absolutely necessary to try. Finish off your meal with one of the soul-soothing desserts like ‘Jalebi Churros’, ‘Chocolate Cake’ and more.

Foxtrot Gastropub is located on 89/1, Monnekollal Village, Varthur Hobli, Outer Ring Road, Marathahalli.
