Last Updated 24 April 2019, 09:01 IST

Advance booking for ‘Avengers: Endgame’ began last Saturday, and within minutes, all tickets were sold out. The Marvel film is releasing this Friday.

BookMyShow witnessed record sales, with a million tickets being sold in just over a day; the site says it sold 18 tickets a second.

With this, ‘Avengers: Endgame’ became the first film to have sold a million advance tickets so fast on the site.

Movie buffs complained about the site crashing.

PVR at Vega City, Bannerghatta Road, is selling tickets at Rs 1,134 in the gold class, while PVR in Phoenix Marketcity Mall, Whitefield, tickets are priced between Rs 264 and Rs 765.

Kirthi Shenoy, seller support associate, is a Marvel fan. “It took us a while but we have booked IMAX tickets for Friday and I cannot wait.”

On Friday afternoon, when a Metrolife reporter went to Lido on MG Road and Forum Mall in Koramangala, the multiplexes said tickets were sold out for the entire weekend. Tickets were available only for Monday. Srinivasa theatre on SG Palya Road and Lakshmi theatre near Tavarekere Main Road were almost full. Ticket prices at standalone cinemas were lower than at the multiplexes.

Saga with superheroes

Produced by Marvel Studios, ‘Avengers: Endgame’ is a sequel to ‘The Avengers’, ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ and ‘Avengers: Infinity War’. It’s the 22nd film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The film features an ensemble cast with Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Don Cheadle, Paul Rudd, Brie Larson, Karen Gillan, Danai Gurira, Bradley Cooper and Josh Brolin, and is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo. The film picks up after ‘Infinity War’ where most characters, including Spider-Man, Vision and Nick Fury, disappeared after villain Thanos acquired the infinity stones and dissolved half the universe’s population.

Small premium

At Lakshmi theatre near Madiwala, a man approached our reporter and asked if we wanted to buy tickets in black
(Rs 700 for two). The regular price is Rs 300.
