The difference between reel and real has always been stark. While Bollywood movies have always shown the lady falling for the hero, in reality, wedding bells seem to ring more often for the baddies. We can’t figure out whether it is an error of judgement or the lure of money; here, take a look for yourself.

Malaika Arora Khan and Arbaaz Khan

Malaika married Arbaaz Khan in 1998 and they split up in 2016. Arbaaz has again been in the eye of a storm since his admission last week about his involvement in an IPL betting racket. In fact, he revealed his betting itch was one of the major reasons for his divorce with Malaika.

Sangeeta Bijlani and Mohammad Azharuddin

The former Bollywood actor and Miss India-Universe (1980) had starred in a string of yesteryear blockbusters before tying the knot with Hyderabadi cricketer Mohammed Azharuddin in 1996. The marriage ended in a divorce in 2010, reportedly due to Azhar’s alleged affair with badminton player Jwala Gutta. Eventually, Jwala denied the rumours. Azhar was implicated in the infamous match-fixing scandal in 2000 and was subsequently banned by the BCCI for life.

Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra

One of Bollywood’s most sought-after actors, Shilpa Shetty married British businessman Raj Kundra in 2009. In 2013, Kundra was questioned by the Delhi police in the Indian Premier League spot-fixing case. He admitted to betting and losing a huge amount. The Supreme Court imposed a life ban on his cricket life. He is currently under the scanner in connection with a Bitcoin scam, said to run into more than Rs 2,000 crore. Interestingly, Kundra has written a book called ‘ How Not to Make Money’. Smooth, huh?

Shivangi Kolhapure and Shakti Kapoor

Shivangi Kolhapure, sister of famous Bollywood actors Padmini Kolhapure and Tejaswini Kolhapure, has done just a few movies in her career. At 16, she started seeing Shakti Kapoor, and went against her family’s wishes to marry him. However, things were sorted out after the birth of their children. In 2005, Shakti lived up to his onscreen image when he was caught in a sting, offering roles to a newbie in exchange for sex.
