Hours before a division bench of the Calcutta High Court to hear the BJP’s plea regarding its rath yatra in West Bengal, the state BJP leadership made it clear that they are not sure whether the rath yatra will take place on Friday.

“If the High Court says that the yatra cannot take place now then we cannot go against the Court’s decision. Then we will let you know when the yatra will take place. As of now, it is doubtful whether the yatra will take place today,” said state BJP president Dilip Ghosh.

The state BJP leadership also indicated that they are also unsure whether party president Amit Shah will come to Cooch Behar district-from where the rath yatra is supposed to yatra is supposed to start- as the High Court’s verdict goes against BJP.

Even as Ghosh said that Shah is scheduled to reach Cooch Behar at 2 pm he also pointed out that the purpose of Shah’s visit to Bengal is to inaugurate the rath yatra which

“Amit Shah is supposed to reach Cooch Behar at 2 pm...He is coming to inaugurate the yatra,” said Ghosh.

The development comes a day after a single bench of the Calcutta High Court denied permission to BJP’s rath yatra in Bengal and ordered that the yatra cannot take place before the next hearing on January 9.

Following the single bench’s order, the state BJP leadership said that they will approach the division bench. The plea will come before the division bench on Friday.
