Deol meets Shah, fuels speculation for Amritsar seat

A purported meeting between BJP national president Amit Shah and actor Sunny Deol has hastened speculation that the actor might be fielded from the Amritsar Lok Sabha seat.

A photograph of the two has gone viral on social media. It's worth mentioning here that the BJP has also delayed the announcement of names of its candidates for the upcoming elections. Its campaign in the three constituencies- Amritsar, Hoshiarpur and Gurdaspur- is yet to start. Filing of nominations in Punjab begins on Monday while the state goes to polls in the last phase of elections on May 19.

After the entry of Navjot Singh Sidhu in the Congress, Amritsar no more remains a BJP citadel. The Congress has its sitting MLA on 8 out of 9 Assembly segments in the parliamentary constituency of Amritsar. The Amritsar Lok Sabha seat is currently with the Congress. Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh defeated Union Minister Arun Jaitley in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections by a huge margin. Capt later resigned and successfully contested the Assembly elections.
