Kolkata: Fire breaks out at multi-storey building

Fire broke out at a multi-storey building at Salt Lake on the eastern fringes of Kolkata on Wednesday. Three fire engines have rushed to the spot and are currently trying to douse the flames.

According to Fire Brigade sources the incident took place at the SDF building in Salt Lake. "At around 10 am smoke was noticed bellowing out of the fourth floor of the building which houses several offices," said a Fire Brigade official.

He also said that they are still not sure whether the fire is only confined to the second floor as smoke is also coming out from other floors.

"The fire is yet to be brought under control. All people inside the building have been evacuated. So far there is no information about anyone being trapped inside the building. No casualties have also taken place," the official said.

At around 11. 30 am Fire and Emergency Services Minister Sujit Bose said that the fire has been brought under control.
