Hema turns to Dharmendra to woo 'Jats' in Mathura

In her reel life, whenever a villain would try to harm Hema Malini, Dharmendra would have come to her rescue. And now he will be doing the same in real life too.

Embroiled in a tough contest, film star-turned-politician Hema Malini has turned to hubby Dharmendra to woo the 'Jat' community in Mathura Lok Sabha constituency in Uttar Pradesh.

A 'Jat' himself, Dharmendra on Sunday campaigned in the areas dominated by the community in the constituency and sought votes for his wife.

He will also be holding roadshows in areas, where his community voters are in sizable numbers.

"Jats work hard in the fields... They also fight for the country and never shy away from sacrificing their lives," Dharmendra said at an election rally at the 'jat' dominated village of Sonkh.

Clad in dark green shirt and sporting a hat, Dharmendra recited his famous dialogue from his blockbluster film 'Sholey'— the scene where a drunk 'Veeru' (Dharmendra) climbs atop a water tank and threatens to commit suicide forcing Basanti's (Hema Malini) aunt to agree to his and Basanti's wedding.

"If you (people) don't ensure her (Hema) win by a large margin, I will jump from the village water tank," he said evoking a laughter from the crowd.

Hema Malini faces a tough challenge from the SP-BSP-RLD 'grand alliance' in the constituency.

"Today is also a special day for me! Dharamji is here in Mathura to campaign for a whole day on my behalf... The public is waiting eagerly to get a glimpse of him & listen to what he has to say!,'' Hema Malini tweeted.

The BJP feels that Dharmendra's presence will help prevent a split in the 'jat' votes.
