Last Updated 13 January 2019, 21:03 IST

Congress party in Rajasthan has chosen the festival of Makar Sankranti (Kite Festival) to corner the Narendra Modi-led BJP government on Rafale issue. Congress party workers have distributed 25,000 kites with four questions over Rafale deal printed on them which have now dotted in the Jaipur skies.

The four questions printed on the kites are exactly the same asked by Congress president Rahul Gandhi to PM Narendra Modi on Twitter. "Questions which we have printed include, Why the government bought 36 aircraft instead of the 126 needed by the Indian Air Force. The next question is over the increased price of the fighter jet from Rs 560 crore per aircraft to Rs 1,600 crore. The third question was giving preference to Anil Ambani-led Reliance Defence over HAL and the last question is on content in the Rafale files which were kept in Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar’s bedroom", Pankaj Sharma, Chairman of Grievance cell at Pradesh Congress Committee Rajasthan told DH. Sharma is the brain behind this unique idea.

The sample of the kite was shown and approved by Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot who later released it. "The idea is to spread awareness among masses. Everyone needs to know what Rafale is and the reason why Modi is hiding from Rahul Gandhi", Sharma added.

Sharma who is confident that Kites are no less lethal attack to BJP when it comes to accountability told DH, "Kite flying is popular in Rajasthan and there couldn't have been a better occasion to flow a message among masses. We have kept kites free of cost at temples, mosques, parks, markets, shopping centres etc. Kites are flown by people from all classes and hence our message will reach everyone".

The Congress has aggressively pushed the Rafale deal as its political pitch against the BJP-led government the Prime Minister is at the centre of it. The Congress stands firm even after the Supreme Court gave a clean chit to the deal in its hearing.

After defeating BJP in assembly polls held in December 2018, Congress is now eyeing at 25 Lok Sabha seats in Rajasthan ahead of the polls. Hence party chose Makar Sankranti after the Kisan rally to corner BJP.
