It's honest chowkidar vs corrupt naamdar: Modi

Taking BJP's campaign further after the first phase of voting, prime minister Narendra Modi on Friday said people have to choose between an "imandar chowkidar" and a "bhrashtachari naamdar", a reference for Congress president Rahul Gandhi.

When the BJP launched its campaign, the slogan was "mai bhi chowkidar" - and it gained currency among people and in social media.

In his rallies so far, the PM spoke about how he had been working as a 'chowkidar' and would continue to do so. Besides, he was also using the word 'naamdar', a reference to dynasty politics and Nehru-Gandhi family - and target Rahul Gandhi.

On Friday, when he addressed a rally in Ahmednagar, he said: "...you will have to choose whether you want an 'imandar chowkidar' (honest guard) or a 'bhrashtachari naamdar' (corrupt dynast)..."

Modi went to add that the world is looking at India as a superpower. "You want heroes of Hindustan or those pleading for Pakistan," he said, adding that the Congress stands exposed.

"People have given the slogan - remove Congress forever to remove poverty, remove Congress so that the nation progresses, remove Congress so that the infrastructure improves, remove Congress for sabka saath, sabka vikas...," he said.

Modi pointed out that in the last five years, he had run the BJP-led NDA coalition government with people's participation.

"Our government works on principles of Phule-Shahu-Ambedkar....we have put nation before self and family," he said.

Referring to 10 years of rule of Congress-led UPA government led by Dr Manmohan Singh, Modi said it was a "remote control" government suggesting that then Congress president Sonia Gandhi controlled it.

"Do you want a government with a soft approach in dealing with national security," Modi wanted to know from first time voters.

Modi lashed out at the demand of the National Conference for prime minister in Jammu & Kashmir. "I don't know how Sharadrao is not speaking on it," said Modi and asked NCP supremo Sharad Pawar why he was mum on it. "The name of your party is 'rashtravadi'....but it is sad that you are seeing the country through foreign lens," Modi said.
