Rahul calls PM Narendra Modi a liar

Last Updated 04 March 2019, 05:51 IST

Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Monday hit back at Prime Minister Narendra Modi accusing him of lying as he launched several projects in Amethi, the Lok Sabha stronghold of the Gandhi family.

Modi, who visited Amethi on Sunday to inaugurate a unit at the Ordnance factory to manufacture Kalashnikov rifles, said the unit was launched in 2007 and supposed to begin production in 2010 but “nothing happened”.

“I laid the foundation stone for Amethi ordnance factory in 2010 and for the past many years it has been manufacturing small arms,” the Congress President hit back at the Prime Minister.

“Yesterday you went to Amethi and, as usual, lied,” Rahul said.

In the run up to the Lok Sabha elections, Congress has been trying to paint Modi as a compulsive liar accusing him of not fulfilling the promises he made to the electorate in 2014.

“If you want to hear ‘kaam ki baat’ (things that work), come to us. Go to Modi, if you want to hear lies and ‘Mann ki Baat… he (Modi) tells new lies wherever he goes,” Rahul had said in Mumbai last week.

“Now, Amethi will not be known for a famous family but for AK 203, ‘Made in Amethi’. These rifles will help our jawans in encounters with naxals and terrorists,” Modi said in Amethi on Sunday.
