Nine professionals chosen to be inducted in bureaucracy

Nine professionals have been recommended to be inducted in the bureaucracy as Joint Secretaries through lateral entry, ten months after the government initiated the process.

Those chosen include KPMG professional Amber Dubey, Director and Chief Executive Officer at Panama Renewable Energy Group Dinesh Dayanand Jagdale and among others NHPC professional Sujit Kumar Bajpayee.

Dubey has been appointed in Ministry of Civil Aviation while Jagdale would be in Ministry of New and Renewable Energy and Bajpayee would be in Ministry of Environment.

Others include Kakoli Ghosh (Agriculture), Arun Goel (Commerce), Rajeev Saksena (Economic Affairs), Saurabh Mishra (Financial Services), Suman Prasad Singh (Transport) and Bhushan Kumar (Shipping).

The recruitment process for selection of candidate for Joint Secretary on contract basis for the Department of Revenue has become infructuous at the interview state.

The government had announced the opening of the higher bureaucracy to private sector with much fanfare. After the applications were issued, DH had reported in February this year, 6,077 people had applied but only 89 were short-listed for interview in ten departments or ministries.

The largest short-list is of Ministry of Shipping and Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare with 14 each while the lowest is Ministry of Commerce with just two and Department of Economic Affairs with three.

The government had roped in the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), which had asked people who had applied directly to submit a 'Detailed Application Form', which formed the basis of a scrutiny and short-listing.

Of the total 6,077 who initially applied, only 3,768 submitted the DAF, which contained additional specific information from the candidates regarding qualifications and experience so as to facilitate the selection process.

Among those who submitted the DAF, the highest number was for the post of joint secretary (financial) at 641 while the lowest was for department of economic affairs with 162. For the Ministry of Commerce, the UPSC could short-list only two out of 341 final applicants while for Economic Affairs, it was three from 162.
