The Supreme Court on Tuesday allowed Karti Chidambaram, son of former Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram, to travel abroad in May and June but after depositing afresh a security amount of Rs 10 crore.
A bench of Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justices Deepak Gupta and Sanjiv Khanna said Karti has to deposit additional sum of Rs 10 crore, even as his counsel senior advocate K V Vishwanathan submitted the same amount, deposited earlier, was still lying with the apex court's registry.
"We don't think, you would have any problem in depositing Rs 10 crore again," the bench said.
The court allowed Karti to visit the United Kingdom and the USA in May, and Germany and Spain in June, for international tennis tournaments organised by 'Totus Tennis Ltd'.
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the investigating agencies, did not oppose the plea.
Karti has claimed he was associated with tennis as a "former player, current administrator and entrepreneur".
He faced investigation by the Enforcement Directorate and the CBI into INX Media and Aircel Maxis cases.
The top court had in January too allowed Karti to go abroad after depositing Rs 10 crore. The court had then warned him not to play around with the law and cooperate in the probe
