Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming visit to Jammu, security has been beefed across the state to ensure that the PM’s events don't face any trouble.

“All the modern means of security system has been put in place across J&K,” a senior police officer said and added an alert has been sounded in all three regions of the state.

“All the agencies and forces including intelligence agencies are working in a very coordinated way. Sharpshooters atop high-rise buildings in three-kilometre radius of the venue will be deployed to prevent any subversive activity while CCTV cameras inside and outside the venue will keep a close eye on any disruptive elements,” he said.

Modi will be visiting Jammu on a daylong tour on January 15 to kick-start the campaign for the coming Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in J&K. Apart from launching various Jammu-centric developmental projects, Modi is also scheduled to address a public rally at Vijaypur in Samba district. The state BJP is leaving no stone unturned to ensure that Modi’s rally is a grand success.

Reports said around 1,500 security personnel from CRPF, Sashastra Seema Bal and Indo-Tibetan Border Police have been deployed in and around the city and highway to keep close vigil, in addition to already deployed police.

Special night patrolling has also been strengthened, police and para-military troops inspect every vehicle entering the city. Reports said a multi-layer security cover has also been put in place and hi-tech surveillance systems energised in Jammu city to ensure incident-free arrival and departure of the PM.

Ahead of 2014 Lok Sabha elections, when the BJP named Modi as prime ministerial candidate, he addressed his first rally in the temple city on 1 December 2013.
