The BJP’s efforts to make inroads into the Christian vote bank areas of Kerala suffered a setback on Thursday as the prominent Syro Malabar Church flayed the BJP on several issues ranging from fuel price hikes to Stan Swamy’s arrest.
It was in an article in the church’s mouthpiece ‘Sathya Deepam’ that the church attacked the BJP.
BJP state President K Surendran and Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister Dr CN Ashwath Narayan called on Syro-Malabar Church Cardinal George Alencherry in Kochi the other day, reportedly seeking support during the election.
Flaying the fuel price hike, the church asked whether the ongoing ‘Vijay Yatra’ by the BJP state president was to celebrate petrol price touching the Rs 100 mark. The moves to cut ration beneficiaries would affect many in Kerala. Why was human rights activist Stan Swamy put behind the bars for a long time? asked the article.
The article also accused that all political parties were competing to meet religious heads to ensure votes and later accusing each other of being communal.
