Last Updated 25 July 2019, 11:02 IST

Two men from Nalgonda district and one from BHEL area here, all residents of New South Wales (NSW) in Australia, drowned in the unpatrolled area of Moonee beach, NSW north coast.

In all, a group of six people had ventured into the dangerous Coffs Harbour area of the coast on Monday night.

According to reports, the six swimmers, including three teens, were found struggling in the surf at the beach. According to police, Ghousuddin (45) of Manyam Chellka, Nalgonda and Rahat (35) of BHEL could not be revived after paramedics attempted CPR. The body of Ghousuddin’s son-in-law Junaid (28) has not been traced. NSW police suspended search operations due to the darkness.

Search resumed on Tuesday morning involving officers from Coffs and Clarence Police District, Marine Area Command, the police air wing, PolAir, and local volunteers from the Surf Lifesaving Association and Marine Rescue, a police statement said.

Ferocious tide

Two rescued teenage girls, aged 15 and 17, and a 15-year-old boy were shifted to Coffs Harbour Hospital for observation. Police said all six people came to Coff’s Harbour from western Sydney for a holiday. The NSW police have appreciated the efforts of the local people, who rescued the teens from the “ferocious” outgoing tide.

“It’s understood one lifeguard swam up to 500 metres to bring one person back to shore,” Australian website (news.com.au) reported. An eye witness said that two men, who wore oxygen masks, were found struggling and when they were pulled out they were totally exhausted.

Meanwhile, former Nalgonda MLA Komatireddy Venkatreddy spoke to the family members of the deceased and urged the Telangana state government to expedite the process of bringing the bodies to Hyderabad.
