A day after Marathi actor Ketaki Chitale was arrested for sharing an objectionable and derogatory post against NCP founder-president Sharad Pawar, a magistrate court in Thane on Sunday remanded her to police custody till Wednesday.

Chitale was arrested on Saturday evening from Navi Mumbai by the Thane police. She would be in custody till May 18.

Even while she was being escorted by the police, a group of NCP workers threw black ink and eggs at her.

Chitale (29), a film and TV actress, has allegedly shared a derogatory post on her Facebook page referring to the surname “Pawar”. It contained phrases like "hell is waiting" and "you hate Brahmins” and mocked his illness and his voice.

Chitale was booked under Indian Penal Code Sections 500 (defamation), 501 (printing or engraving matter known to be defamatory), 505 (2) (making, publishing or circulating any statement, rumour or report promoting enmity, hatred or ill will between classes) and 153 A (spreading disharmony among people).

Complaints have been filed against her in some other police stations as well.

A 23-year-old pharmacy student Nikhil Bhamre was also arrested on Saturday for allegedly sharing objectionable social media posts about Pawar.
