In a bid to reclaim green spaces in urban areas a seed bombing exercise was undertaken near the famous Daulatabad Fort in Aurangabad district of Maharashtra.

During the pilot initiative, one lakh seeds of custard apple were dropped from the chopper around the Mombatta lake.

Various departments like Forests, Revenue and Eco-Battalions participated in the initiative.

“It’s a matter of pride that the exercise was conducted in Aurangabad,” said Dr Purushotam Bhapkar, Divisional Commissioner of Aurangabad Division.

The seeds are first wrapped in mud called as seed balls. Once dry, they are tossed into open space, these when nourished by rains, germinate and grow into a tree. Started by Masanobu Fukuoka, the Japanese man famous for popularising natural farming, the concept has been adopted worldwide
