Yadadri sex racket: HC takes suo motu cognisance

The High Court of Judicature at Hyderabad took suo motu cognisance of child abuse, trafficking and sexual exploitation at the temple town of Yadadri child sex racket: Girls kept in small pits'. The action was based on the Insight report on October 14 in DH.

A court of Chief Justice Tottathil B Radhakrishnan and Justice S V Bhatt on Saturday registered the matter as a public interest litigation (PIL) and made the Union government, its woman and child welfare ministry, as well as social justice and empowerment ministries along with the state of Telangana, its director general of police, Rachakonda police commissioner and state child welfare ministry among others as respondents.

The court made it clear that it will call for records and remarks on the issue from all the concerned regarding the sensational Yadadri sex racket and similar activities in other parts of Telangana. The court also noted that cases have been filed against the accused and police are planning to initiate proceedings against some of the accused.

The court also took note of the role of persons who were claiming to be doctors and administering growth hormones to speed up growth in girl children to force them into flesh trade. The court may take up the case for hearing on Monday before the division bench headed by Chief Justice Radhakrishnan.

The high court also secured reports from officials who stated that so far, 23 cases were registered against 33 persons and 33 girls were rescued from brothels in Yadadri town in connection with the case.

The Rachakonda police say that they have closed over 68 brothels in the past two years.
