Fascist notion in art field: Prakash Bare

People should develop interest in acting along with their professional careers, suggested renowned film director Prakash Bare.

“We have to reinvent ourselves at least once in 10 to 15 years,” he explained.

He was speaking at the inauguration of the two-day state-level film festival ‘RefleXion 2019’ organised at the Mangalore University by the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication of Mangalore University and the Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy on Tuesday.

“There is a fascist notion in the field of art as well. Entertainment should not be forced on anyone. All of us should have an opportunity to select the movie we want to watch. Platforms such as Netflix, Amazon and Voot have taken over the likings of the audience,” he pointed out.

He reminded that small budget movies also win laurels, as the quality of a movie makes all the difference.

Director Abhayasimha explained that he had used sync sound technology for his movie ‘Paddayi’. Actor Chandrahas Ullal said that deep sea fishing was shot for the movie.

‘Need to question’

During her presidential address, Prof Kishori Nayak, in-charge vice chancellor of Mangalore University, said, “Commercial movies encourage monotony. There is need to challenge such monotonous experiments. To bring in changes in the entire sector, we need to develop the attitude of questioning.”

The movies that were screened on Tuesday were ‘Paddayi’, ‘Shuddi’ and ‘Ammachiyemba Nenapu’.

On April 10, ‘Hebbettu Ramakka’ (9.30 am) and ‘Naticharami’ (12 noon) will be screened.
