II PU exams: Top Commerce, Science ranks to DK

Students from Dakshina Kannada have bagged top ranks in the II PU examination in Commerce and Science streams.

Joining the league of Olivita Ancilla D’Souza and Srikrishna Sharma, who have secured highest marks (596) in Commerce, is Shreya Shenoy of Canara PU College in Mangaluru who has secured 595 marks.

Shreya, who wants to be a CA, said, “I had not restricted myself to studies alone. However, I was attentive in my studies.”

Shreya, who loves music, had secured 98.24% in SSLC examinations. She is the daughter of Ganesh Shenoy and Shalini Shenoy.

Twins achievement

Swasthik P of St Philomena College, Puttur, who has secured the third position in commerce in the state, said, “I had expected above 590 marks but did not expect to be on the topper list.” He has secured 594 marks.

Wanting to be a CA, he said, “Hard work has helped me to excel. I used to study for five to six hours a day. I believe in understanding the concept rather than mugging up.”

He has scored full marks in Sanskrit, Economics, Accountancy and Statistics, while 95 in English and 99 in Business Studies.

Swasthik’s twin sister Swathika has scored 589 marks in Commerce.

“We used to score same marks all these years,” Swasthik said and added that his sister had scored full marks in Sanskrit, Accountancy, Statistics, 95 in English, 96 in Economics and 98 in Business Studies in II PU.

“We were in same class all these years.” he added. Swasthik said that he is learning ‘mridanga’ and had learnt music. Even his twin sister is learning violin.

Anish Aiyappa N V of Satya Sai Loka Seva PU College has secured 587 in commerce stream. Hailing from Gonikoppa (Kodagu), he is the son of Jamuna Vasanth. He wants to continue his education in the field of management studies with HR specialisation. He has scored full marks in Accountancy and Basic Maths.

Science toppers

Jagrathi J Nayak, a student of Vivekananda PU College, Puttur, is a topper in science and stands third in the state. She has secured 592 marks.

Hailing from Kallare in Puttur, she said, “Only hard work helps to excel and thanked her teachers and parents for their support.”

“I want to be a doctor and trying hard to excel in NEET,” she said.

She is the daughter of Jagannath Nayak, office Assistant at Vivekananda College-Puttur and Jyothi Nayak, a homemaker.

Pratham N and Shamitha Kumari of Sharada PU College in Mangaluru have both bagged fourth position in the State in science stream. They have secured 591 marks each.

Pratham dreams of becoming an ISRO scientist and said that he was studying four to five hours daily.

“It was not studying alone, I used to play as well. Teachers at the college were supportive, who even helped us in solving the problems through WhatsApp. I play keyboard and spend my free time drawing.” He is the son of S Nagaraj and Vaishnavi.

While Shamitha Kumari said that she wants to be an electronic engineer by joining a premier institution. “I used to study for six to seven hours in a day.” Her hobbies are drawing and singing. She is the daughter of Venkateshwar Kumar and Kalpana.

Rohan Rao of Sharada College has scored 590 marks and wants to be a scientist. Hailing from Uppunda in Udupi, he was staying in SKDB hostel.

“The hostel authorities would wake us at 5 am and help in our studies. Even the teachers were supportive,” he said. Rao is the son of Jagadish, a businessman and Vani.

He plays Tabla and has learnt Hindustani music.
