Mangalore City South MLA Vedavyas Kamath said there was a proposal to construct sports complex in Mangaluru to provide all sports facilities to sportspersons under one roof.

“The sports complex will have badminton, swimming pool and other facilities. A blue print for the sports complex will be prepared at the earliest,” he said while addressing the gathering at the district-level swimming competition, organised by Jai Hindu Swimming Club and DK district Swimming Association at Mangala Swimming pool on Saturday.

The district had several swimming talents. To help the swimming talents, a state-of-the art swimming pool will be built under Smart City Mission in Mangaluru. Action plan is being drafted to take up the work on cost sharing basis between centre and state governments.

There has been a rise in demand for another swimming pool in Mangaluru. Keeping this in mind, priority will be given for the construction of two swimming pools.

Preparations are on for the construction of swimming pool at Emmekere. Due to technical reasons, the work on the pool had been stopped, he said.

Former minister Nagaraj Shetty said there was a need for an international standard swimming pool in Mangaluru. The Kreeda Bharathi will extend its support to the construction of swimming pool.

A total of 125 children from eight clubs in six districts - Bengaluru, Davanagere, Hassan, Kodagu, Udupi, and Dakshina Kannada participated in the competition. The competitions are being conducted in seven categories, sourced added.
