With summer vacation coming to an ending, a large number of devotees are visiting Dharmasthala. The unbearable heat will cause many hardships to the devotees during their visit. Thus an appeal was made to devotees to defer their plans to visit Dharmasthala during this period, Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari Dr D Veerendra Heggade said on Saturday.

He told mediapersons at Dharmasthala that there was sufficient water for “Theertha” (holy water) and “Abhisheka” after building a vented dam.

“We had faced water crisis in the past. However, the intensity was not severe then,” he recollected.

As pre-monsoon showers had failed in Western Ghats area, the water-level in River Nethravathi had depleted, he added.

“There is drought-like situation across the state. Water is required for farming. This is a competition between nature and life. There is a need to minimise the usage of water and conserve it. We have been facing problems as we failed to protect forest cover. The government and experts should look into it. We have to think about the future,” he added.
