A postgraduate student at the Central University of Karnataka (CUK) at Kadaganchi in Aland taluk was allegedly raped by hostel staff on the varsity campus.

The incident, which took place on December 30 at 7.30 pm, came to light late.

The survivor is pursuing her postgraduation course in the varsity. The Narona police have arrested Anil, a cook in the hostel, and Guru, a worker.

According to the complaint, Anil touched her private parts and kissed her when the victim went to the hostel mess to check whether the dinner was ready. Shocked by the cook’s behaviour, the girl managed to run out of the mess.

Another worker Guru dragged her into a roadside bush and raped her, the FIR said. A police officer said, “The rape survivor didn’t open her mouth when she was produced before the judge. Also, she is not cooperating in the investigation.”

CUK Vice-Chancellor Prof M Maheshwaraiah told DH that he had informed the police after the incident came to his notice. “The student has been subjected to medical examination. She has not given any statement to the committee of the varsity,” he added.
