1.08L cusecs of water released from KRS, Kabini dams

A total of 1.08 lakh cusecs of water was released from the KRS and Kabini reservoir on Sunday. Both the reservoirs are full to the brim following copious rains in the catchment areas.

Around 30 crest gates of the KRS dam at Srirangapatna taluk in Mandya district, have been opened from
which 73,000 cusecs of water is being released into the Cauvery river.

The inflow into the dam stood at 51,679 cusecs on Sunday. A large number of people thronged the KRS to have a glimpse of water gushing out of the crest gates.

Cauvery Neeravari Nigam Executive Engineer Basavarajegowda told DH, that five tmc. ft of water has been released in the last 24 hours. In all, seven tmc ft of water has been released so far, he added.

The outflow from Kabini dam, at HD Kote taluk, in Mysuru district was 35,000 cusecs. According to an engineer of Kabini reservoir, around 50 tmcft of water has been released from the dam so far. If the inflow continues to be more there are possibilities of releasing more water into the river, he said.

The swollen Cauvery has flooded various places in the taluk. Saibaba Ashrama in the town has been partially submerged. The islands at the Ranganathittu Bird sanctuary have also been submerged.

Deputy Commissioner N Manjushri visited the town following the floodalert and took stock of the situation.
