SL: Five JD(S) leaders from Bengaluru feared dead

Five people from Bengaluru are feared dead in the blast that happened at Shangri-La Hotel in Colombo on Sunday.

The deceased have been identified as KG Hanumantharayappa and M Rangappa. Five others are injured.

However, the Ministry of External Affairs is yet to confirm the deaths of Ramesh from Tumkur, Nagaraja Reddy from BTM Layout and Purushotham from Yelahanka.

Amidst confusion over the deaths, Minister for External Affairs Sushma Swaraj tweeted saying that “we sadly confirm the deaths of the following two individuals in the blasts yesterday:-KG Hanumantharayappa and M Rangappa.”

Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy also tweeted saying, “ I am shocked to hear that a 7-member team of JDS workers from Karnataka, who were touring Colombo,has gone missing after the bomb blasts in #colombo. Two of them are feared killed in the terror strike.I am in constant touch with the Indian High Commission on the reports of those missing.”
All the injured were shifted to National Hospital in Colombo.

Seven people from Bengaluru had gone to Colombo, of which five are feared dead and one is missing. Ramesh from Tumkur, Nagaraja Reddy from BTM Layout, Purushotham from Yelahanka are feared dead.

Purushotham is said to be the father-in-law of Yelahanka MLA SR Vishwanath. Another person, Subramanya, is missing, according to Dr Kesavaraj, an eyewitness.

C R Manohar MLC said that he too had gone to Sri Lanka on Saturday and a room was booked in Shangri-La but since he was uncomfortable there, he move to another hotel near Shangri-La. After the incident, he rushed back to Bengaluru. He also said that Anil Kumble and his family too were in Colombo when the incident happened. They too have returned.

The seven members connected to a political party had gone from the Vokkaliga Sanga to relax after the election campaigns.

SR Vishwanath Yelahanka MLA rushed to Sri Lanka on Sunday night. His wife confirmed the death of her father Purushotham to DH.
