Voters in Karnataka can get information on their polling booth, know the status of the queues on voting day while physically challenged voters and senior citizens can avail of various services through the upgraded “Chunavana” App.

Chief Electoral Officer Sanjiv Kumar said the app has data on all the 58,186 polling stations mapped through geographic information system (GIS), which will allow users to search for their polling station. On voting day, it will also provide free pickup and drop facility for elders.

“Physically challenged people with different needs can get such services by booking on the app at the earliest. Nearest police station and hospital have also been mapped for emergency services,” he said.

Last year, the election authority had provided about 14,000 wheelchairs to a few physically challenged voters. Kumar said there were about four lakh differently abled persons with various needs but the Commission can help them only if they make booking.

85K arms deposited

The election authorities have booked 36,302 cases under preventive Sections of CrPC. Across the state the 84,293 licensed arms have been deposited with the Election Commission.

The commission has deployed 1,512 flying squads and 1,837 static surveillance teams to check on violations of code of conduct. The teams have seized Rs 1.35 crore in cash, 1,377 litres of liquor worth Rs 20 lakh and other items worth Rs 1.34 crore.
