PM Modi to lay foundation stone for IIT-Dharwad today

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone for the building of the permanent campus of the Indian Institute of Technology Dharwad (IIT-Dh) and an Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) here on Sunday.

Modi will also dedicate to the nation three major projects including the City Gas Distribution (CGD) project, phase 1 of the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) facility located in Mangaluru., Padur and doubling of track in Chikjajur-Mayakonda section of South Western Railways and launched the railway electrification work on Hospet-Hubballi-Vasco-da-Gama route.

IIT-Dharwad

The permanent IIT DH campus will come up in the sprawling 470.21 acres located in Chikkamalligawad-Kelageri village in the outskirts of the city at an estimated cost of Rs
1160.34 crore. IIT-Dh has developed a master plan to construct a green and smart campus with world class and state of art infrastructure.

Dharwad CGD project

The Rs 178.43 crore city gas distribution network is an interconnected network of pipelines for supply of gas to the domestic, industrial or commercial premises in the Dharwad geographical area. So far, 40.5 kms of steel pipelines and 95.5 kms of MDPE pipelines have been laid.

Registration of 2,126 Pure Natural Gas (PNG) connections have been registered and the plumbing work for 400 registered customers is completed and these customers are ready for conversion to PNG, a release said.

ISPR

The Strategic Petroleum Reserve located at Mangaluru and Padur are underground crude oil storages and serve in response to external supply disruptions. The Mangaluru SRP with 1.5 MMT capacity is constructed at the cost of Rs 1194.71 crore and can meet India’s crude requirement for 2.7 days. Similarly, the 2.5 MMT capacity SPR located in Padur is constructed at an estimated cost of rs1647.51 crore and it can meet India’s crude requirement for 4.5 days, the release said.

Railway projects

The doubling of 18 kms of track in the Chikjajur-Mayakonda section carried out at an estimated cost of Rs 110 crore is one of the major railway development project of this region. Doubling of the railway track in this section will increase line capacity of this important route connecting Bengaluru to Hubballi, Belagavi and Mumbai and boost the economic activities as it is the main trunk route of Karnataka
.
Under this project, the railway stations of Chikjajur Junction, Sasalu and Mayakonda have been upgraded with new facilities, stated a release by SWR.

Electrification works

The Rs 744 crore electrification works on the 342 kms stretch of Hospet-Hubballi-Vasco-da-gama railway line that the Prime Minister will launched on Sunday is important for the seamless working of trains electric traction on the Guntakal-Bellary-Hospet-Vasco-da-gama section that is vital for freight movement to and from Goa. Apart from improving the mobility on this route, this project will strengthen the railway network in north Karnataka region, the release said.
