Trial blast: Geologists inspect mining areas near KRS

A team of scientists from the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research-Central Institute of Mining and Fuel Research (CSIR-CIMFR), Dhanbad, Jharkhand, visited the mining sites in the district on Wednesday to undertake a study on the impact of mining activities on Krishnaraja Sagar (KRS) dam.

The team, led by two scientists, inspected the crushing units at a radial distance of 20 km from the KRS dam. They also inspected the mining sites at Neelanakoppal in Srirangapatna taluk, Bebi Betta in Pandavapura taluk and Bannangadi mining area.

Senior geologist T V Pushpa of the mines and geology department, Cauvery Neeravari Nigam superintending engineer Vijay Kumar and local police accompanied the team.

Deputy Commissioner S Ashwathi said, “A team of scientists has inspected the mining region. A decision on trial blast will be taken later”.
