Two baby girls were found abandoned on Thursday--one on the roadside and another in a hospital--in two separate incidents in Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.

In MP, a three-year-old malnourished girl was abandoned by her grandmother at the civil hospital in the state’s tribal-dominated Jhabua district came to light.

Anita’s grandmother Leelabai left her at the hospital as she lacked the resources to take care of the child on the night of April 3 in a highly malnourished state, hospital sources said.
The child was left in the care of her grandmother by her labourer parents who had gone to Gujarat in search of employment. The parents of the girl hailed from Fuledi village under Megh Nagar block of the district, the sources said.

At present, Anita is being looked after by the staff of the Women and Child Development Department. The in-charge of the children’s ward Dr I S Chouhan said police have been informed.

In another incident, a new-born baby was found abandoned on the roadside in sector 62 area in Noida, police said. Some people noticed the child and informed the police, who later admitted the baby at a Noida district hospital.

It appears that an unwed mother might have abandoned the child, police said, adding the baby is only one or two days old.

Records at nearby nursing homes are being scanned for clues about the child's parents, police said.
