8.50 lakh tonne sand in CRZ areas

Over 8.50 lakh tonnes of sand (85,000 truckloads of sand) is available in CRZ (coastal regulation zone) areas, according to NITK’s Bathymetric survey of CRZ areas in Rivers Netravathi and Phalguni.

The survey report, submitted to Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner, stated that 4,30,357 tonnes of sand (43,037 truckloads) was identified in 13 sand bars along River Netravathi while 4,20,270 tonnes of sand (42,027 truckloads of sand) was identified in 9 sand bars along River Phalguni.
