ABVP wants govt engineering college

ABVP members stage a protest in Chikkamagaluru on Wednesday.

Demanding a government engineering college in Chikkamagaluru from the academic year 2019-20, ABVP members staged a protest in the town on Wednesday.

The ABVP activists gathered at Azad Circle and shouted slogans urging authorities to start the engineering college.

The work on the building of the college should commence on the land identified for the engineering college in the district, they demanded.

They said the classes should commence from the academic year 2019-20 in a rented building till the college building work is completed.

Taluk Panchayat President Nettekerehalli Jayanna said that the state government in 2012 had sanctioned a government engineering college to Chikkamagaluru. The DC had identified 31 acres of land at Indavara.

The delay in the release of funds by the state government to construct buildings further delayed the commencement of the college, he added.

Protesters alleged that the chief minister is behaving as if he belongs to only Mandya, Mysuru and Ramnagara while H D Revanna is concentrating only on the development of Hassan.
