The ISIS wants to portray Mosul as a city of death, but we want to portray it as a city of life, said Omar Mohammed, founder of the online news blog ‘Mosul Eye’.

Omar, a historian and also a citizen journalist, was speaking on the topic, ‘Freedom-Your Right,’ which was live-streamed on Skype,
at Article 19, an annual media event, organised by School of Communication (SOC)
of Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE)-Manipal.

“They will do anything and everything they can to take away the freedom. But if you give up your freedom then you have given up everything,” Omar added.

Mohammed risking his own life has created the blog ‘Mosul Eye’ with an attempt to inform the rest of the world about the atrocities faced by the people living in Mosul, Iraq’s second most populous city.

Omar, further, said, “I care a lot about the future of Mosul. I believe we are in the movement and have a long way to go. Only when you believe in your individuality, is when your nation can actually succeed. Mosul is my mother. It does not matter how old you turn, you will always remain a child in the eyes of your mother, and this is exactly my sentiment towards Mosul,” he said.

Nag Ashwin Reddy, Director of films like ‘Yevade Subramanyam’ (2015) and ‘Mahanati’ (2018), screenwriter and an alumnus of SOC also spoke on the occasion.
