Maharashtra government denied nod for Vajpayee statue event: BJP

BJP president J P Nadda's visit to Mumbai to unveil a statue of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee was cancelled, following which the party claimed the Maharashtra government denied permission for the event at the last minute. The event was scheduled on Saturday, on the occasion of Vajpayee's birth anniversary, at a sports complex in suburban Kandivali. Maharashtra is currently governed by the three-party alliance of the Shiv Sena, NCP and Congress. Minor girl raped, killed in Moradabad

A seven-year-old girl was abducted, raped and killed in a village in the district, police said on Sunday.

A farmer spotted the girl's body in a sugar cane field in Kanth area of Moradabad and informed police on Friday.

Postmortem of the body has confirmed rape.

The girl went missing on Wednesday and an FIR was lodged by her parents.

Circle officer, Kanth circle, Mahesh Gautam said that a case of rape, abduction and murder under various sections of the IPC and POCSO Act has been registered.

"Our teams have completed investigation and very soon the culprit will be behind the bars", he added.

Moradabad MP S T Hasan visited the family of the deceased girl and assured them that the culprit would be brought to book. (PTI)

Mild tremor in Palghar; no casualty

A tremor of 3.9 magnitude was recorded in Maharashtra's Palghar district on Sunday morning, an official said. There was no report of any casualty or property damage so far, district disaster cell chief Vivekanand Kadam said. The tremor was felt at 5.35 am, he said. The district has experienced frequent tremors since November 2018, specially in Dundalwadi village of Talasari taluka and also in parts of Dahanu taluka. The seismic activity in the district on Sunday was recorded after a couple of months. (PTI)
