A total of 2,29,074 people have been evacuated from the affected districts in the Konkan region and western Maharashtra, to safer places.

A statement from the state secretariat control room said 28 more deaths were reported from the Satara district in western Maharashtra and 8 from the Raigad district in the coastal region.

The government said 60 deaths were so far reported in Raigad, 21 in Ratnagiri, 41 in Satara, 12 in Thane, seven in Kolhapur, four in suburban Mumbai, and two each in Sindhudurg and Pune.

90 bodies recovered, 33 people missing in Maharashtra following landslides: NDRF

Ninety bodies have been retrieved and 33 people are missing following landslides triggered by heavy rainfall in the coastal regions of Maharashtra, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) said on Sunday.

A spokesperson for the federal force said the NDRF is operating in three landslide-affected districts of Raigad, Ratnagiri and Satara.

Death toll in Satara's landslides, rain-related incidents rises to 37

The fatality count in multiple landslides and other rain-related incidents that occurred in Satara district of Maharashtra over the last few days reached 37 on Sunday, officials said. While 26 bodies have been recovered from five landslide locations - Ambeghar, Dhokawale, Mirgaon, Kahir (all villages in Patan tehsil) and Kondhawale village (Wai tehsil), the remaining casualties were attributed to rain-related mishaps, such as drowning in flood water, roof collapse and boulder crash, they said.

As many as 1,35,313 people have been shifted to safer places, including 78,111 in western Maharashtra's Sangli district, followed by 40,882 in Kolhapur district.

The Krishna river in Sangli and Panchganga in Kolhapur are in flood though the rains were reported to have subsided on Saturday.

89 bodies recovered, 34 people missing in Maharashtra following landslides: NDRF

Eighty-nine bodies have been retrieved and 34 people are missing following landslides triggered by heavy rainfall in the coastal regions of Maharashtra, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) said on Sunday.

S N Pradhan, the Director General (DG) of the federal force, tweeted the latest data of its operations being undertaken in Raigad, Ratnagiri and Satara districts of the state.

Over 100 Thane civic staff sent to Mahad for relief work

Over 100 Thane Municipal Corporation staff have left for Mahad-Poladpur in Raigad district to help with solid waste management, water and other issues post Thursday's devastating landslide and flooding caused by incessant rains, a senior civic official said on Sunday.

TMC commissioner Vipin Sharma told reporters the group includes health staff to carry out surveys to detect Covid-19, dengue, leptospirosis, outbreak of epidemics and fever, and they are carrying 10,000 rapid antigen testing kits and sufficient stock of medicines.

Separate force like NDRF to be formed in all Maharashtra districts: CM

Amid the rain havoc in parts of Maharashtra, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Sunday said a separate force on the lines of the NDRF will be set up in all districts of the state and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) will also be strengthened.

The number of deaths due to flooding, landslides and other rain-related incidents in parts of Maharashtra reached 113 on Sunday with one more casualty reported in the last 24 hours, while 100 people were missing after the monsoon fury, the state government said.

India's monsoon death toll climbs to 127, dozens still missing

The death toll from flooding and landslides triggered by heavy monsoon rains in India climbed to 127 Sunday, officials said, with rescuers searching for dozens more missing.

The country's western coast has been inundated by torrential rains since Thursday, with the India Meteorological Department warning of further downpours over the next few days.

In Maharashtra state, 117 people have been killed, including more than 40 in a large landslide that hit the hillside village of Taliye some 250 kilometres (155 miles) southeast of Mumbai Thursday.

The Centre on Sunday assured help to mitigate the crisis in the wake of mega-floods in the Konkan and Western Maharashtra.

"The Centre will surely help," Union Minister for MSMEs Narayan Rane said. He said the Centre and State will rebuild the Taliye village, he said.

Search ops on for missing people in Satara

The rain intensity reduced inMaharashtra's Satara district on Sunday and authorities continued search operations for those missing after landslides, while traffic remained suspended on the Mumbai-Bengaluru highway as a stretch in neighbouring Kolhapur was still inundated, officials said. The death toll in rain-related incidents at Satara in westernMaharashtrarose to 28 by late Saturday evening while at least 14 people are still missing, they said. (PTI)

Maha rains: Dalai Lama condoles loss of lives, writes to CM showing solidarity

Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama has written to Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, expressing grief over the loss of lives due to rain-related incidents in the state and also donated to the ongoing relief and rescue efforts.

The death toll from the torrential rains that have battered Maharashtra's Pune and Konkan divisions over the last three days and triggered landslides in some areas rose to 112 on Saturday, including 52 in the coastal Raigad district alone. (PTI)

IAF, Navy teams carry out evacuation

The task forces of Indian Army are conductingrescue and relief operations in three worst-hit districts of Maharashtra. The Indian Navy teams evacuatedover 200 people in Karnataka. Around 400 NDRF personnel was airlifted to affected areas by Indian Air Force. More rescue teams and aircraft are on standby.

Meanwhile,9 people have died and 3 people are missing in flood-affected regions of Karnataka, State Revenue Minister R Ashok has told ANI.

NDRF has deployed 8 more teams in flood-affected areas in Maharashtra, taking the total number of NDRF teams deployed for rescue andrelief operations to 34.

Maharashtra floods: Over 75,000 people shifted in Kolhapur so far; seven dead

Seven persons have died in rain-related incidents in Western Maharashtra's Kolhapur district so far while more than 75,000 people have been shifted to safer places, a state minister said on Saturday. As many as six teams of the NDRF and a column of the Army carried out rescue operations in the flood-hit areas, said district guardian minister Satej Patil. (PTI)

Rescuers in India waded through knee-deep mud and debris Saturday in a grim search for survivors as the death toll from heavy monsoon rains climbed to 115, with nearly 150,000 others evacuated.

Torrential downpours have lashed India's western coast in recent days, leaving dozens missing near the financial capital Mumbai and causing the worst floods in decades in the resort state of Goa.

A landslide in the hillside village of Taliye, south of Mumbai, left just two concrete structures standing, flattening dozens of homes in a matter of minutes, witnesses told AFP.

"It happened so quickly," said Dilip Pandey, who saw the disaster unfold on Thursday evening.

"There was a huge whooshing sound and the village just collapsed," he told AFP.
