Defence PSU Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Italian firearms maker Beretta for the indigenous manufacture of close quarter weapons.
BEL said the agreement was in line with the Centre's vision for an "Aatmanirbhar Bharat."
The MoU will see the manufacture of carbines and other small arms, required by Defence and other Non-Defence customers. Anandi Ramalingam, Director (Marketing), BEL, and Carlo Ferlito, General Manager, Fabbrica d’Armi Pietro Beretta and VP Beretta Defense Technologies, signed the MoU documents on behalf of BEL and Beretta Italy.
